Readin', writin' and rithmatic....

I read the news today oh boy........

No, that ain't it........ then again, mebbe it is.

When I think of reading...... my brain goes to folks sitting down, "leave me alone" mode.  devouring as much as one can in however long the sitting may be.  I ain't sure I've ever used a bookmark.  Po', just folded one'a the edges.

Thought though..... wunner how many bookmarks are there on Amazon (note to readers, "WHY?  Why are you here!)... I counted 7 pages with 40 bookmarks a page, ranging from a penny to $17.99 and I got tired of looking but there were more, more costly. Geez.

I Googled "What do Americans read?"...... Learned, mystery and crime (35%), history (30%), biography (27%) thrillers (23%) fantasy (23%) and romance (23%).  We'll get to 'rithmatic at some point, but, Google is fulla dog poop as that adds up to 138%.

I call BS anyways, 'cause I know MANY drown themselves reading Facebook, Instagram, X, that crap... and I do believe the newspapers have decent readership.

My buddy Bear, I think it was, reads a book a week (or more.)  I ain't.  Not since I owed a 23 cent late fee at Franklin Hughes Library in 2nd grade and I thought the elderly lady looking down at me over her specs was gonna dismember me or sumpin similar. Huh uh, aint doing that again. Scarred and scared, 4eva.

Like life, to me anyways, reading is fun, sucks, lies, is truthful, interesting, boring as hell...  a full gamut.  With AI, you simply don't know.  With buddies who write "Don't worry, I've "completely stopped gambling" NO, don't take me, er, them, at their word!

Then, there is, thankfully, really pleasurable reading. A note, or fun text from a friend, loved one.  An interesting 'reel."  One place I worked, we had a 'text chain' of all employees, and, roughly four times a day (6a to 10pm) we'd get texts "PLEASE DON'T (do this, or that, if this happens, don't/then).. it got to the point (not), pant pant pant, Pavlov - OH PLEASE SEND ME ANOTHER!   Just kidding, but not really.

Where was I?  Pleasurable reading Victor.  Oh yeah. And, there is that.  It's a personal choice, like virtually everything in life.

Writin'.,,, oh hell, here we go. Yes Victor? OK. I admit, I do love to write.  I'd much rather sit at my computer than to be what I was very correctly deemed to be "deathly quiet" in a crowd. Not always, but mosta the time.  I literally, in a group of buddies, will get up, switch my middle seat with a buddy's end seat, announcing "I'm not a great conversationalist, and I listen better'n I talk, switch me".. I'm boring, and ok, probably here too.

One more thing about writin'.  Like our skin, why does our writing get 'wrinkled' with age?  I usedta have fairly decent handwriting, now, I worry the folks who own my apartment will have no idea what amount I've written on my monthly rent check to them.  I jot stuff down, go back a few days later, ask, "Victor, you idiot, what's this say?"  Truth.

'Rithmatic....... sadly, class reunions, family gatherings, friend meetups are all faced with subtraction.  It is part of life, doesn't mean it has to be enjoyed when we lose one.  Addition, what better than gaining a new one in the family.  "Awwww's" are in order, appreciated, and.... feel good.  Division.  Divorce, breakups, arguments, company bankruptcies, geography, and oft times, as simple as "Time got away, I wondered what happened to you."

And that's all I have to say about that, Jenny.

Tune in tomorrow when we might discuss ":Life's a gas." (Ethel, Regular, Unleaded... farts.. talking after sucking in heluim... and Venezuelan tankers.) or Parties (keggers... one year old birthday cake smashes... table balloon volleyball at Golden Acres)... or Music..  (Goodbye yellow brick road.. And now, the end is near... Leavin' on a jet plane...   Freebird... Goodbye cruel world)......

Extra Extra, Read All About It........... life's a circus...

I've been in the Write place, but it musta been the wrong time...

One is the loneliest number....... One, two, buckle my shoe...  8 days a week, right Google?

Love, Victurd
