Ain't no sunshine when it's dark.......

Band camp, a few years back... took the train to Chicago (fun stuff)..  went to the infamous Wrigley Field to watch the Cubs vs the Royals in a make-up game... stadium about half full.  Wrigley is old, iconic.  Built in the day before engineers figured how to build overhangs without having big ole steel girders in the way of the view of many.

Two young ladies, I don't remember if they were blonde or not (VICTOR!  You damn misogynist!  AM NOT.  ARE TOO!  AM NOT!)  Anyways... crowd sparse, they sat in two seats directly behind a big ole steel girder.  Move 4 chairs to the right so they could see the batter's box?  They never thunka that.  Sat there the entire game.  Ain't no baseball behind a steel girder.

College band camp. No, not really band - remember, I flunked out in 8th grade band trying to play the recorder/tonette.  A professor.  He was knowledgeable, respected, semi grumpy and in the first couple of years I don't think I ever saw him smile. Introvert, Capital I. He then had a horrendous fall, severe trauma to his head... after recuperating, he emerged with the same knowledge, but amazingly, he was extroverted, joked, portrayed happy. Biased, I loved the change. Ain't no sunshine when one barks.

I have one buddy who is completely blind, another that's sees a tad, but is legally blind, and another whose child's eyesight is sadly gradually diminishing.  Amazing folks, all.  Pillars of optimism, happy, example setters.  Always sunshine even when it's dark.

Roughly 35 years ago, a feller named John founded a 'start from scratch' company selling only one main product, 3D Fireworks glasses composed mostly of paper. From this, the company eclipsed (Pun intended, but, Mr. Moffitt? Correct usage?) into paper goodie eyeglasses for movies, TV, websites, theme park attractions, laser light shows, and... drum roll.. 'glasses' to safely watch a solar eclipse.  Howabout like 45 million pair sold for the 2017 eclipse, and anticipated sales of 75 million pairs for Monday's upcoming eclipse. That'$ a lotta 'Mon'shine when it's dark.

Wouldn't it be cool to work there, and mebbe have ole John say "Well... nice job folks.. I'm gonna share the wealth.. .since the next eclipse ain't until August of 2044, we're gonna take some time off with pay, and I'll seeya back here in June of 2044. Spoil those grandbabies wouldya?"

Smarter'n me folks have deemed there is a 115 mile wide path from Mehico, to Texas, to Maine to observe the Monday, April 8th (total) eclipse. Thus, folks are gassing up SUV's, chargin' them Tesla's to beat feet to get to the path. I kinda sorta remember last time folks did that too - some, it worked, others, cloud cover got in the way - coulda stayed home and mebbe seen it better.  My granny would prolly advise, "Stay home, don't gamble.  Fold your money in half to double it."

Dark.  If you've read this blog a time or six, it's certain you sense the D-word (yes, dark, but also depression) can, does come into play.  My personal take (remember, C+, M+ average student) is, all of us will find our toes dipped in depression a time or a hunnerd. Glory Hallelujah to those examples of folks above who smile, laugh, love, even if the sun ain't out.

There absolutely can be sunshine when it's dark.
