I can sea clearly now...........

Johnny Nash... 1972.. Wheretheheck were you?  Had you made the transition from a litte dab of Bryclreem to two full hands of Prell shampoo and conditioner so you could then borrow your sister's hair dryer to dry all that 'mess' up?

Me too.

I can see clearly now, the rain has gone

I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It's gonna be a bright, bright sun-shining day
It's gonna be a bright, bright sun-shining day
I think I can make it now, the pain has gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is that rainbow I've been praying for
It's gonna be a bright, bright sun-shining day
I am IT iliterate.  There's a space up there between the first line and the second line to this song and i ain't got the foggiest how to fix it.  Moreso, I don't really care.  A female buddy'o mine stared out at my car last night... I love my car. It's a 2002 Buick Century... and like every car I've ever had with electric windows - one of 'em don't work, it's obviously 'taped up'.  "If you need some money, I'll help you fix it." I laughed, then thanked her.  "No, it's me. There's some symbolism there.
My beloved 2006 Caddy that met it's demise at dark-thirty thanks to Hy-Vee Grocery store hiding their light poles (Paid just over $4K for it, shop wanted well over $4K to repair, huh uh, but thanks)... Anyways...... driver's side window no worky.  Embarrassing, and, a pain at fast food joints.  Some were super nice, some, close your ears, kinda gave me that 'look down on you' glare. I don't care. Caddy dealier wanted $900 to fix my window, "well, there's three computer modules needed and two of 'em are in the trunk." Huh uh, but thanks.
Look all around, there's nothing but blue sky
Look straight ahead, nothing but blue sky
I can see clearly now, the rain has gone
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It's gonna be a bright, bright sun-shining day
It's gonna be a bright, bright sun-shining day
Victor, we're bored.  And, that dooesn't even address the fact you TMI too much (that "po po pitiful me" self deprecation bit), but mainly, we're bored.  Yeah, me too, sorry.  You ever awaken in the middle'a the night and ask "Have I had enough sleep yet?"  If I were smarter, I'd have a big ole alarm clock, but honestly, I don't want one.  This morning, it was 3-something am (I do sleep with phone, play Sudoku to zonk, and, to see time)... I'd had roughly 6 hours sleep (Victor, WHY are you telling us?  Like, we care?)  I know..  I, honestly, try to relate junk about me to make you think, compare, well this is how I do it.
We're all different.  I go to bed early, arise early. Ex GF, she'd go to bed late, sleep late.  I'd get up at 2:30am, go to living room.. tv semi blaring. She was sitting upright on the sofa.. snoozing like crazy. Happened, a lot.
I decided, at 3-something am, I wanted to sleep more but was struggling.  That GF I mentioned, she too sometimes would struggle to go to sleep - so, she had this machine that would play the sound of the sea/ocean waves... relaxing like crazy. Sooooooooooooooooooo.... i figured I needed more sleep.. figured, by now, there was an app (a free app, scroll to 'po po pitiful me'), there was.. downloaded, and in under a minute and a half, I was 'back listening' to the soothing, crashing waves of the Sea of Cortez,  ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ'ing, yum.
Gonna be a bright, bright sun-shining day
Goin' for a bright, bright, bright sun-shining day
Gonna be a bright, bright...

But all that crap up there isn't what I wanted to talk about.  Sorry.  I struggle. I TRULY struggle with the game of golf.  Sadly (HAPPILY ACTUALLY) I love it.  I've had lessons.  Works for a couple rounds.  Huh uh.  I've watched more youtube videos on 'how to play golf' than all the hours I spent watching Captain Kangaroo back in the day. I don't get mad, I don't throw clubs, I just...... really suck at it.

So............. Decided to pick a couple of my favorite members at the course and ask, "How'd you learn?"

Each.  Self-taught.

But golf isn't really what I wanna write about.  VICTURD YOU'RE DRIVING ME BATTY.

Sorry. Kinda.

A Facebook post a friend shared really touched me yesterday. A short, 'simple' one.  It's about kids. Kids going back to school.  Golf is fun, extra fun.  School as a child, way more troublesome, challenging, sometimes, even cruel for a child.

There's no Youtube video for a child to specifically learn "How do I make it in this World?"  There are ALL  kinds of family, home situations that scream out "that child needs help, there's no one to guide him/her."  The words below help the child that has loving, caring parents- and that is so, so, very good. But... what about the kids who have to be self-taught in life?

I'm gonna go ahead and post the verbiage below. It's short, but (I think) impactive.  It really made me stop and think... and, remind me.. Golf is easy, so to speak, in comparison.

Have a yummy day, please sea to it. Love Victurd

"School is almost starting and I want to ask you a favor… Sit with your child for 5 minutes and explain that there’s never a reason to make fun of someone for their height, their weight, their skin tone, their home life or the things they enjoy.
Explain there’s nothing wrong with wearing the same shoes every day.
Explain to them that a used backpack carries the same dreams as a new one.
Teach them not to exclude anyone for "being different"
Explain to them that teasing hurts and that school is for going to LEARN, NOT to compete or spread negativity.
Remind them some kids don’t go home to loving families so it’s important to be kind. It all starts at home!"

Ike and Tina? Tossing and turning? No U-turn? No, that ain't it..

A well don't you know, about the Byrds, well evvvverybody knows, about the Byrds.. a well Byrd, Byrd, Byrd is the word....  Formed in the 60's, much turnover. As in 11 different members in their short career.  Many members, turned their talent to other bands... ie, Crosby Stills Nash Young, The Flying Burrito Brothers (Parsons, Hillman), The Desert Rose Band, Hillman again.  Boring Victor, turn to sumpin else.
To everything turn, turn, turnThere is a season turn, turn, turnAnd a time to every purpose under Heaven
A time to buid up, a time to break downA time to dance, a time to mournA time to cast away stonesA time to gather stones together
Don't forget to turn in your vote today.  Remember, you gotta select your Party of choice.. have any of them ads turned you to the udder side?  Have any of 'em turned your stomach? Madeya turn the channel?
To everything turn, turn, turnThere is a season turn, turn, turnAnd a time to every purpose under Heaven
A time of love, a time of hateA time of war, a time of peaceA time you may embraceA time to refrain from embracing
It's MY turn. No it ain't. Right turn on red. U turn. (U know, U know, U know my name..it's Victurn!)..
Turn the tables.  What election ads hope to do.......or... what waiters and waitresses hope to do..........fast.
When someone's back is turned.  Good gosh I hate that.  Turnabout is fair play... say... did you hear about so-and-so?
To everything turn, turn, turnThere is a season turn, turn, turnAnd a time to every purpose under Heaven
A time to gain, a time to loseA time to rain, a time of sowA time for love, a time for hateA time for peace, I swear it's not too late

New teacher... Was giving an assignment in class one day. Big assignment, so, turned, reached high up on chalkboard. Giggle from a student. She quickly turned, "What's so funny Pat?"... Well, I just saw one of your garters.  "Get out of my classroom, I don't want to see you for three days."

She turned back to the chalkboard, realized she'd forgotten to title it. Reached WAY up to the top, did so.  An even louder giggle.  She turned, "Billy, what's so funny?"  Well teacher I saw BOTH of your garters.  Exasperated by now, punishment, more severe.  "Get out of my classroom! I don't want to see you for three weeks!"

Embarrassed, she drops the eraser as she turns around.  She bends to pick it up.. A loud belly laugh happens.  She quickly turns to see Little Johnny leaving the classroom.  "Where do you think you're going?"  Well teacher, from what I just saw, I  figure my school days are over.

That was pretty lame Victor.  You think allofasudden my stuff is gonna turn funny?  Ahm, no.  Me neither.

Dizzying turns, Olympic gymnasts.  That one pole vaulter, lost his turn when a body part knocked the crossbar off.  Turns out, that led to 7,464 'Likes' on his POF account.

Nascar. Left turns. Prisons. Wrong turn. GPS, ensuring right turn. Book map. The hells that?

Fine, youthful skin turns to wrinkle.  Boobies (MISOGYNIST! AM NOT) and bellies, turn to closer to the ground as time goes on. It's the male cardinal whose feathers turn into the beautiful, vibrant, red colors. (MISOGYNIST!  CHIRP!)

And now.........it's Judy's Turn To Cry..   Cher, thanks to some nice Doctor work, kinda has "If I Could Turn Back Time."

As The World Turns.

We woke up. Another turn.

Turns out, maybe this wasn't such a good idea for a blog after all.  Sorry. Gimme another turn tomorrow?

When it's least expected.........

yeah yeah yeah...  "you're elected, it's your lucky day... SMILE,  you're on candid camera."

Expectation.  I do, kinda sorta, feel an obligation to be here, write here..  I certainly appreciate that, but... at the same time, I think "Man, they must have really strange brains if they wanna come, read what's going thru your brain Victurd."  Uh huh, agree.  OK, but here goes....

Upset the apple cart.  Routine. Normal. Same ole same ole. ROAD CONSTRUCTION? CRAP!...  3:36am today..   "You are not connected to the Internet."  By Golly (which, has me asking, whointhehell is Golly).. By Golly, I pay DARN GOOD money to be connected to the Internet.. NO. Just say NO, it ain't so!  Sorry, tis.

Ever eat a pine tree?  No, that ain't it.  Ever see an apple cart?  Me neither.

I utilized my technician talents (I unplugged everything, plugged it back in.)  Waited.  "You are not connected to the Internet." Cussing doesn't/won't help.. but I did say damnit-darnit. I looked at the the possible Internet connections I could try... had all my neighbors loving names for their service... I was reminded about the kid upstairs long ago (the one that usedta knock on the door at 4am to borrow a cig).. and he'd said "I'll pay you $20 if you gimme your internet password." HA

Finally got that crap figured out....... there was a wire unplugged from  the router.. no idea how that happened (fancy for, "son did it")...

Wordle, 3, not bad.  Check FB, nuttin new really.  Time for local sports from the KC Star.  Whereinthehell is the local sport's page in the KC Star.  It's there, EVERY morning.  Frustration.   Apple cart turned over.  Makes me wanna grab an apple and wing it at a squirrel!  VICTOR!  NO!  The hell  did that come from?

Geez, you delve.   You gotta be really bored.  I'd watched the tail end of the Royal's game. Victor, nobody cares.  I know, thanks, sorry.. not.  I wanted to read about it. We were behind 2-0 in the 9th.  A hit.  An out.  Another hit.  Pinch hitter for us... a guy batting .187, hits a 3 run homer, we win, we win (after we get the Tigers out in the 9th). Apple cart turned over, I can't read about it.

Next on my routine (and I can't believe you're still here, awake...) is, Wordle comparison score with my youngest niece, yeah the one that awakens at ugly-thirty like I do.  I'd asked her "What are you gonna do today besides, or, in addition to, a kitty on your lap?"

She informed, "Quncy (her lap cat) LOVES playing with his laser light.  Like, he's obsessed with it..it was so cute.. yesterday, he went and touched it with his paw and then looked around for the light. I have to hide it from him because he gets so weird about it... wants to constantly play or he does bad things.. And part of me feels sorry for him because he will never catch it!"

VICTOR. Whatinthehell does this have to do with you wanting to wing an upset apple from the cart at a squirrel?  I'm so glad you asked...   I then informed my niece, that that (can you use 'that that' in a sentence?_).. that that (Quincy, never catching the light) reminded me of my old girlfriend's hound Nascar, a miniature schnauzer.  TBC

Squirrels. Nascar.  Hella trees.  Nascar loved to chase squirrels. The little basta's were smart, cause they knew exactly how far away they could get from a tree - and safely return once Nascar eyeballed 'em, began his chase mode.  Bottomline, he'd never catch em just like Quincy will never catch the laster light.  And besides, Nascar, just whatinthehell are you gonna do if you ever do catch one?

OK, all that crap has you up to date for about the first 30 minutes of my morning. Then, I recounted my story from Saturday.  I suck at golf. I do, don't really care, but, I don't wanna be a detriment, slow down folks I play with.............. soooooooooooooooooooo... I took my golf clubs, threw 'em in a cart..   bought a bucket of balls at the range.. found a shade tree.. Strategically balanced my cell phone in onea the little cupholders of the golf cart...pointed it toward where I'd be hitting from, found the camera button.. pressed 'video', pressed the start button....  grabbed a 7 iron, dumped the bucket... I envisioned me being Scottie Scheffler on the 18th hole.. winning the Gold medal for the good ole U.. S.. of A.  Whack! I hit  one.  Whack! I hit another one.  Whack, a 3rd. That tired me out. Uh huh, did. Back to cart.. to watch. TBC

I light a cig, take a swig of water (it's 95 degrees).. grab the phone.. balance it on the steering wheel.. hit the 'play video' button.. I hear the sounds around me.. I see the beautiful green of the course around me..... soon.. I hear WHACK... and again, WHACK...  and yet a third, WHACK... but no Victurd visable. TBC.

Ahm, so, the next time, I turned the phone 180 degrees so it would actually record me hitting the golf ball insteada the complete opposite way. Don't tell no one, k?

When I finally figured it out, had the phone turned correctly, my first thought was GOOD GOSH GERTIE.  I was, am, are, HORRIBLE.  Aside from how much I suck  at golf, ahm, it was deemed 'Victor, you need to go back on that low carb, little sugar crap so your golf rounds ain't so 'round'.

I'd hit the 7 iron, watch.. then, youtube "the correct way to hit the golf ball from a side view"..watch.. then grab a 6 iron..  Good Gosh Gertie...  then, watch video again..  grab a 5 iron.. and so on...

You ever see yourself on video and think "NUH UH! REALLY?  THAT'S ME?"

Maybe ya had to be there.. .be fat...  crippled... really suck at golf like me, I dunno.  The 'crippled' part.. I know, I know. It was said yesterday, there is always someone worse off than you, and Good Gosh Gertie I DO KNOW that...  I just like funnin'.  Like... in the very rare event I win the golf hole in our regular foursome.. and I have honors (I getta hit first on the next tee) , my buddies (because me hitting first is so rare) they chime in like how they announce the golfers on TV "And now on the tee..  so-and-so from such-n-such"... but, when they do that... that's where I chime in "and now on the tee...  Joe Cocker from Cripple Creek, Colorado!"

Onea my favorite memories of Married With Children was when Kelly Bundy (who I  thought, think, is incredibly beautiful).. had the camera..  she aimed it on Al, Peg, Bud.. snapped the picture.. oops.. wrong way.. the flash went RIGHT INTO HER EYE... adding considerably more consternation, imbalance to her already consternated, imbalanced self.

I apologize for laughing Chistina.

When's the last time you've seen yourself on camera/video?  Fair warning, Good Gosh Gertie, it will upset the applecart. The main problem for us all though.. is.. it looks just like how we are now.

Oh happy day.......  oh happy day.

Have fun.  Laugh at yourself.

Self-deprecate, self-deprecate, dance to the music.......

Love, Victurd

(Oh... and..  the guy batting .187, that hit a 3 run homer, we win, we win (after we get the Tigers out in the 9th)...  he did a bat flip.  (Bat flip is where you kinda show up the other team, flip the bat in a circle as it exits your hands.)  Gosh, I love him winning the game for us, and, twas quite an accomplishment, but how can you have any cake (ie, bat flip) if yer don't eat your pudding (hit, in excess of the Mendoza line, ie, .200.  Mebbe he should rewatch the video, rethink.

That's what speed do..........

Dangit Victor, YES we remember your KC Royals winning the World Series in 2015... not a powerhouse hitting team.. nothing really, over and above the quality opponents the Royals faced, other than... a shutdown 7th, 8th, 9th inning bullpen, oh, and, a wonderfully fast team of players that took the extra base... ran down and caught nearly every fly ball in the gap... a perfect fit ('beating feet') for the big ole confines of their home ballpark... as little (big) man Jarrod Dyson said, "That's what speed do."

And don't do....... witness the running back in the open field...  71 yards of daylight between he and the end zone..... tackled from behind... "Unhook your trailer!  You an embarrassment!"

And of course, the big old DH thrown out (easily) on a double play ball.. "We don't mind you carrying the piano on the way to first base, just don't stop and play it."

Driving.  Color me very old school... I don't like to drive fast.  My buddies, all, have these stories "yeah, remember when we had that (enter old car here) and we went to (enter road trip here) and we got it up to (enter a really stupid mph speed in excess of 100 here)..   Nomme.  I'm not really sure if I've ever driven 90, fact.

"Life is like a ten speed bicycle.. most of us have gears we've never used."  Charles Schulz

There's the semi frantic, semi scolding "What do you have in your mouth?" speed of an escaping toddler.

"Going like 60" for fans, former students, admirers of our teacher Bonita Allen.   Weekends are speedy.  Lifetimes are speedy.  Speed is  good/bad.   On Valentine's Day, should we run, exceed the speed limit to Piggy Wiggly to be first in line to grab the $14.99 dozen roses..... or, should we take our time... stop and smell them, then get in line?

Cheetah's run 59 mph. Band camp.  Grew up two houses from the President's house at a small, Liberal Arts College...  the at-that-time College President.. would pull up in a car (a few doors the other way) driven by... ahm, I think like his secretary or something, dunno, mighta been the gal who did his pedicures... jump'  out in his jogging suit, sweat band on his head.. (which was purposely soaked).. run past our house and 'finish' his 'long jog' running home to his wife.  Speed, as in pulling a fast one.

Planes Trains and Automobiles.  Superman.  In spitea Looney Tunes, coyotes actually out-pace roadrunners every time.

Fast talker. In the blink of an eye. Get a move on.  At the drop of a hat.  In one fell swoop.  Like a bat out of hell.  Make it snappy.  Pedal to the metal. Lickety split.

Speed has it's place, fer sure.  As we age, I find anyways, speed ain't so important.  If, on foot and I arrive at the checkout lane at the same time as a snotnose (or, even a bit older than a snotnose) its, "You go ahead, I'm retired.. in no hurry."  Don't make me out to be a saint cause if we're at 2-lane Mickey D's drive thru, it's GAME ON as to me getting to Window #2 faster'n the other lane driver.

Go Speed Racer. It only takes me a minute ten to nuke a hot dog.  Mr. Foreman's grill cooks me up a medium well steak (both sides) in 7 minutes.  The ONLY time I run anymore is usually at Wally..  when 'uh oh' happens and in a millisec' I detect whether the fronta the store or backa the store john is closer.

"Speed is irrelevant if you're going in the wrong direction."  Mahatma Gandhi

I'd much rather slow dance.  Take the backroad.  Listen to others (vs the open mouth, insert foot). We, Libertyites, lost a good friend yesterday.  It was expected.  Still, too fast.  Thank your for your thoughts, but please, no 'sorry for your loss' (which of course would be nice of you,but not needing said)..as, it was a loss to many, particularly to one of the most loyal families we've ever witnessed.

Slow down, you move to fast.  Got to make the morning last. (and afternoon, night, day, week, month, year, yada)

There's no getting around tears sometimes.  That's what speed do.

Love, Victurd

What's up, Doc?

Nothin' but the rent.......... you?

The routine (won't bore ya again)..  got to the point of the small print baseball standings... then, "On this day in baseball."

August 3rd, 2001, SkyDome, Toronto Bluejays versus the Baltimore Orioles and the Toronto Aphids.  Huh?  Yeah......  In the 3rd inning, fans were streaming to the exits thanks to an invasion of  aphids...... a swarm so darn bug, er, big..  the ump stopped the game and ordered the retractable roof closed.

"It was tough. Lotta bugs... felt something in my mouth but I didn't wanna think it was a bug.....".   2nd baseman wore a dust mask.

"I couldn't take a deep breath 'cause I'd suck in dinner," Baltimore reliever Kris Foster said - as he made his Bug League, er, Big League debut later in the game.  Toronto ultimately prevailed, headline "Blue Jays Work the Bugs Out."

Turns out, tweren't the first time in Toronto..  yeah, Aug. 27, 1990, against the CinciGNATti Reds..... no... wait... it was Milwaukee..  a HUGE swarm of gnats this time, once again stopped the game, caused the roof to be closed.

Dr. Colleen Morgan, archeologist, likes bugs, kinda sorta.  Dig it?  "I run a strict no-kill policy in my trenches. Spiders, snakes, lizards, worms, we get it all, and I do my best to carefully move them to another place.... did my first field work in Texas..   menace bugs..  horseflies, ticks, centipedes, chiggers, fire ants... got a mean set of chiggers..  mountains of pus, ITCH, ITCH, ITCH.. .then, next day, coworker and I stumbled into a seed tick nest.. back to hotel room that night, stopped counting after I'd pulled off the 70th one." (TBC, which, is, to be continued,  got it? Don't bug me)

"Few days later, big lumps on my shins and upper arms... joints sized up.. couldn't walk...  Doc after doc scratched head.. finally deemed "Erythema nodosum (inflamation of fat tissue) due to “excessive envenomation.” (As in like, poisoned by a spider.)

Envenomate.. envenomate... dance to the music.

Sorry, kinda.  Terry?  Weren't you that? Archeologist?  (ah, mebbe Geologist).. Any good bug stories?  Ifn's I was that lady, I'd be slappin' those damn things like crazy, screw the no kill, they're bugs!...   and then I'd find anudder occupation, me thinks.

Bees knees.  Snug as a bug.  Dropping like flies.  Busy as a bee.  Social butterfly.  Ants in your pants.  Fly on the wall.  Mind your own beeswax.

I actually went to the Doc once when a moth flew in my ear.  Uh huh. He was musically inclined. He'd started to play In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida on my ear 'drums', I ain't kidding. Doc poured some junk in my ear, kilt him, took 'em out with tweezers.

That's a fact Jack.:

Bugs, aka insects.  Usually 6 legs, three-part body.

Live EVERYWHERE except Antarctica.. (wonder if they got VRBO''s in Antarctica?)

An ant can lift 50 times its own weight. (RUN Chihuahua!)

Only female mosquitoes bite. Figures. MISOGYNIST!  (Don't start that crap again, I just copy and paste facts.)

Some insects can survive being frozen and then thawed out again.  Lightbulb, experiment! Stop Victor.

Not all insects fly.  Most live less than a year... the African Termite Queen can live up to 66 years...  no way...  way..

Why do mosquitoes suck blood?  Blood is needed to nourish their eggs.  That, and, them biting female skeeters bite because skeeter men play pool, don't come home on time, golf for six hours, ain't looked at their 'honey do' list in a montha Sundays... and, they have a limited vocabulary as in  "Huh?" and.. "Wanna fool around?"  Oh, and mosquitopause, that too.

Sorry to have bugged you......   Have a lice day...  No mountains outta anthills.. (Victor, it's molehills, they ain't bugs).  Sorry, bite me.. no wait.. don't.  Feed, love, hug them termites, they grow up quick.

Morning........

Looking out the window of life, we see much.  Good and bad.  We're 'tossed about' between jubilation, elation - and, "why me", not said  aloud - but, I think if we all admit, we've been there.

Once again, here... not knowing what to  write.  I know what I'd like to write about, but, uncertain on how to communicate that to you.

Life is, can be, too hard.  Life can be, too easy - the higher and higher, the more steps of that ladder of yum, the more a fall hurts.

I just read of the Major League Baseball star whose 3 year old son was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre right after the All Star Game.  No. Please no.

Friends, loved ones who endure so, so much hardship... loss..  debilitations.. addictions..  those really large scale issues...  oft times accompanied by smaller, but perhaps equally as festering as unemployment, two-plus jobs just to pay for meds, housing, car woes, yada.

I was gonna copy the lyrics of the Muppets "Who are the people in your neighborhood" but somehow I didn't have the chutzpah to do so.

We do look out our window and see so much.........  conversely, the curtains of woe are often closed, purposely concealed.. "you'd never know it"... the kinda things that eat at one from the inside - we usually never, never know one is going through.

To me, that's why our neighborhood is so important. Sharing good.  Friend Susan posted a really nifty story of a life of motorcycles, canoes, Jeeps, 4X4's, offroad..  meeting so many people, building so many memories.

We need that.  Lots.

Open your curtains.  Share good.  Conversely, if ya see good, let 'em know about it.  My alltime favorite boss, an Elementary Principal, had a saying "Catch them being good."

Sorry, kinda, no songs, weak attempts at humor... Life ain't same ole same ole.  There is struggle within, some, more than others.

That, for the life of me..... is why kindness HAS to come to the forefront. I'm not preaching. I'm just saying.

About it for today.  Have a kind day.  The closed curtains in life will  appreciate it.

Love, Victurd

For what it's worth....... life can be a Pandora's Box

(Celebrate?  Celebrate?  Contemplate to the music?)

There's something happening here
But what it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop
Children, what's that sound?
Everybody look, what's going down?

Ya maybe never heard Bruce Palmer, Dewey Martin and Richie Furay....  but, they too were on the label with  Neil Young and Stephen Stills when they recorded this song in 1967. Stills, thought and thought and thought (kidding) about this, and wrote the song in about 15 minutes.

There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
It's time we stop
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look, what's going down?
What a field day for the heat (Ooh ooh ooh)
A thousand people in the street (Ooh ooh ooh)
Singing songs and they carrying signs (Ooh ooh ooh)
Mostly say, "Hooray for our side" (Ooh ooh ooh)
"Two sides to every board" my granny usedta say, but, Stills himself admits this song "It was really four different things intertwined, including the war and the absurdity of what was happening on the Strip,”

It's time we stop
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look, what's going down?
Yes Victor... what was going on at the Strip?  Well...
The Sunset Strip curfew riots in Los Angeles in 1966. It all started in the mid-1960s when hippies and young people associated with rock and roll culture would frequently gather on the famous street in West Hollywood. In 1966, the local government put in place curfew and anti-loitering laws to stop people from congregating at the behest of local businesses. This tension between the free-spirited culture and local government came to a head in November and December 1966 when protesters clashed with police, particularly on the night of November 12 when roughly 1,000 people showed up to protest the closing of Pandora’s Box, a popular nightclub for young people where the likes of the Beach Boys and Sonny & Cher performed over the years. (I plaguerized that, word for word, sorry, kinda, go ahead, sue me, blood outta a turnip, or something like that.)
Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
Step out of line, the men come and take you away
We better stop
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look, what's going down?
I never knew that about a place called Pandora's Box...... Being the simpleton I am, I looked up definition of Pandora's Box.. "a process that generates many complicated problems as a result of unwise interference in something."
You better stop
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look, what's going down?

That Pandora lady... I guess she (you guys prolly know more than I do) opened a jar (which somehow over time became known as a box) that was entrusted to her... and it was believed to have contained sickness, death, and many other unspecified evils that were released into the world.
You better stop
Now, what's that sound?
Everybody look, what's going down?
You better stop
Children, what's that sound?
Everybody look, what's going down?

It just, to me, kinda seems like we've come full circle.. seems there's something in the air...

Victor...  the US is like a kitty cat falling from the air.  ALWAYS lands on it's feet.

Yeah but..   seems differn't.

Of course Victor, you're too young to remember the British burning DC to the ground in 1814.  Uh huh, I am.   And Abe, when he went to see that play (1865.)  Of course.  Black Tuesday, stock market crash, 1929.  Yeah, heck, my folks were teenie tiny then.  Pearl Harbor.  Yep, 1941.

Could go on and on.  Cuban Missile Crisis, 1962.. JFK's demise, 1963. MLK, 1968. Of course you remember 9/11/2001. Sad, so very very sad.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes... much. Too much.  I just think we'd better stop, now, what's that sound... feel... sumpin' in the air.

Victor, the sky is not falling.

Chicken Train, runnin all day...
Chicken Train, runnin all day...
Chicken Train, runnin all day...
Chicken Train take the chickens away.

What's that mean?

I just feel something. /klak/

The hell is that?

It's chicken little, clucking.  I know (I'm positive, I think) we'll be OK.  I worry for our kids and their kids.

You said, "I'm positive, I think."??????

Uh huh, that's the title of the book I'll never write.

Hey, I gotta run...  Think I'll grab a little breakfast.  Mebbe scrambled eggs... or... chicken pot pie....

But then, if I stop, hey, what's that sound.. everybody look what's going down... an ear of corn and a baked tater sounds better.
